Gracyn broke her wrist. :( Isn't this the most pitiful little face you ever did see?? I'm not really sure how it happened. I was in yoga class and she was in childcare at the gym. She said she fell off the playground. She was crying when I came to pick them up--which in itself is unusual since she's pretty tough. I knew she must have really hurt it because she was crying so much and left the ice pack on it. She didn't even want to run our errands--but wanted to go straight home--which is not like this little social butterfly at all! I gave her some tylenol and after a while, she wanted to go to Nana's house and the library. So, we ventured out and ran our errands. (Side note--as soon as we got to Nana's house, Hudson shut his fingers in the car door. He's fine now--but it was a doozy of a day!!) They wanted to play on the playground at the park after the library, so I let them. She came to me crying that her arm hurt and she wanted to go home--not like her at all! I came home and called our pediatrician who gave me the number to call a pediatric orthopedic doctor they would have sent us to. The doctor wasn't in the office that day, so we got an appointment for first thing the next morning. She wouldn't color, use a fork, or do anything with that arm. Did I mention it's her right arm--and she's right-handed?? If anything, we were going for peace of mind and to make sure that she didn't hurt it on the growth plate. It never swelled or turned a color--it looked as if nothing was wrong...except that she wimpered about it all day. I was thinking/hoping it was just a bad sprain....

She woke up the next morning, bright eyed and bushy tailed--literally! Drew and I were wondering if we should cancel her appointment because she was in such good spirits--compared to the night before! She said her arm still hurt so we went on. She LOVED being in the Wonder Woman room. She'd never seen her before and has decided that's who she wants to be for Halloween next year. Ha! (Does this look like a little girl whose arm is broken?? Compare it to the one above!)

They took her back to get an x-ray, and the doctor came in and said. "Yep, it's broken." I thought I was going to break down in tears! I felt like the worst mom ever not to know that my baby girl had broken her wrist. I had her out and about the whole day before--even took her to Hudson's soccer class--with a broken wrist!! Poor baby!! He said that it was so common not to know and not to feel bad--but I still do. He said she crushed her bone, but that it was a good break and would heal quickly. She'll be in her cast for 3 weeks. Before he could even ask her what color she wanted, she was requesting a pink cast. She's thrilled that it matches Blankey perfectly!
We spent the rest of the day doing whatever she wanted. We went to have lunch at the Magnolia Pancake Haus, she got a new toy, we went for ice cream. She could've asked for the moon yesterday and I would've tried to get it for her!
When we got home, she had a special treat waiting at the front door. Papa Ed, Aunt Janie, Uncle Hunter and Zayne sent her this big teddy bear and balloon. She was so excited!!
Then, a little later the doorbell rang and she got a bouquet of cookies from Aunt Laurie to her to help make her feel better. At this rate, I thought she might break her other arm just to get more special deliveries and treats! Even though she broke her arm--I think she would say she had a pretty great day!
We are learning a new normal around here. I think the hardest part for her is not being able to climb things and play on the playscape--at home, the gym or at school. We're praying that the next three weeks go by quickly!!
