The dentist had told me about some stuff to buy to paint on Hudson's thumb nail to get him to stop sucking it. Hudson said that when he turned four, he'd stop. Ummm, not so much! So, we bought it.We didn't think it through at all--it came on a Thursday evening, so we painted it that night. He wasn't too happy with us! The funny thing was that Drew grabbed a hand and I painted the wrong thumb! Hudson was the one that told us we got the wrong one! (Rule follower to the max!)
Bless his little heart...and it broke mine! I hated seeing those HUGE tears falling down his face and know that I caused them! :( It's hard for me to see how big he's getting. Just another part of losing my baby. As much as I knew he needed to stop sucking his thumb, I loved seeing a glimpse of my sweet baby boy when he'd do it.
We made a BIG mistake starting it at night. It was just a natural relex for him to put his thumb in his mouth throughout the night. And, every time he'd do it, the "yucky" taste would wake him up and he'd start crying all over again. He ended up in our bed that night.
It's been a week now and he's not sucking it at all! Last Friday he stuck it in a few times--(and we had to get some chocolate milk pronto to get the "yucky" taste out). But I'm so happy that it's been so easy so far. I'm hoping that he's done for good!! It's taking him a little longer to get to sleep these days, since he'd usually suck his thumb. But, he's doing AWESOME and we couldn't be more proud! Another week or two of NO sucking and we get to take a trip to the Lego store for a prize!! :)
